Topic: partitioning help

I'm trying to set this up to dual boot with xp and I am having problems getting the partitions right.

I have XP on my first partition taking up 10gb (of a 30gb drive), and a partition to share between that is set to 8gb and formatted fat32.

the knoppix-installer tells me that I need to create a partition and a swap partition. I can do this no problem (~500 for swap, the remaining for linux), it seems, but it keeps giving me the same error about needing a linux and swap partition.

Should the primary linux partition be "linux"? Does it need to be on the first 1024 cylinders maybe?

you may need to toggle your swap flag on  your swap part. a linux part. is like 82 i dont remeber what linux swap flag is off the top of my head. I ithink its 83.

You actually have those backwards. Linux swap is 82, Linux is 83.

Hey 3nkil,

Did you find out whats going on with your dilema.  It sounds like I'm having the exact same problem.  I cant seems to get past the partitioning stage.  I'm pretty new to linux

I got passed it by using IGNORE_CHECK=1 sudo knoppix-installer

Hi Just Visiting,
    I am just read your post well i am also facing the same problem in the past,the solution that i put the linux separate partition  and the Xp partition separated.The both the OS will work in the different partition.
